Hacker Valley Elementary School Welcome to GEAR UP Kick-Off Event

Seventh grade students and parents at Hacker Valley Elementary School are invited to attend the Welcome to GEAR UP Kick-Off Event. Attendees will learn about the West Virginia GEAR UP Program and the benefits it will offer to students throughout its duration, from opportunities for academic enrichment to help with financial aid. Site coordinator Jonas Knotts and Hacker Valley alumnus Dancey Howes will speak at the event.

Sherman High School FAFSA Workshop
Jan 29 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Students and parents will learn about state-level and federal financial aid requirements and deadlines.  Students will also receive one-on-one assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  August Kafer, Director of Financial Aid at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, will provide a financial aid overview and answer questions to assist students and families.
Wahama High School Welcome to GEAR UP Kick-Off Event

Wahama High School will host a Welcome to GEAR UP Kick-Off Event for seventh and twelfth graders and their parents. Site coordinator Teresa Murphy and Vice Principal Melissa VanMeter will discuss the benefits of the West Virginia GEAR UP Program and what it will mean for students. GEAR UP Regional Program Director J.R. Luyster will also be available to answer any questions students or parents have about GEAR UP.

Webster County High School FAFSA Completion Workshop

Students and parents at Webster County High School will be given an overview of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to apply for financial aid for college. Mary Jones and Karen Lay from Glenville State College will attend this event to provide personalized assistance with completing the FAFSA.

Point Pleasant High School GEAR UP Kick-Off Event

Point Pleasant High School’s Welcome to GEAR UP Kick-Off Event will be an opportunity for parents and students to learn about the GEAR UP Grant. JR Luyster will provide an extensive overview of the GEAR UP program. Participants will learn about the services the GEAR UP Grant will provide to them, such as help preparing for college or another educational option after high school, financial aid awareness, and opportunities to tour colleges to get a feel of campus life.

Your admitted student tour begins with an enrollment presentation at 8:30 a.m. to prepare you to join our proud Mountaineer family. Then, our expert student guides present a walking/driving tour of campus. Enjoy lunch in an on-campus eatery followed by an academic department visit.
